A dual major in sustainability prepares you for two different types of careers: direct sustainability positions and jobs in your primary field for which a background in sustainability is an added value.
Sustainability positions exist in all sectors of society, from a government (such as a Sustainability Coordinator for a municipality) to private business (such as a chief sustainability executive), to nonprofits that work promote sustainability.
Additionally, many employers are seeking job applicants who understand complexity, know how to interact with people from varying backgrounds, and can work creatively to develop solutions. Graduates of the sustainability dual major have the knowledge and skills to do so in a way that students only immersed in a single discipline do not.
For examples of the types of positions that recent graduates with a background in sustainability currently hold, here is a summary of what past Sustainability Fellows are currently doing.
